One of the biggest festivals in the country is the Thimphu Tshechu. This Tshechu is witnessed by thousands of people many of which travel from neighboring Dzongkhags (districts) to attend the festivities. The actual Tshechu is preceded by days and nights of prayer and rituals to invoke the gods.

Package Itinerary
Arrive at Paro- Thimphu-After arriving at Paro International Airport you will be picked up by your personal guide and driver from Fly to Bhutan and drive to your hotel for lunch. On your first day in Bhutan you will then visit the National Museum, located in the watchtower (Ta Dzong) of Paro Dzong. After the museum you precede to Paro Rinpung Dzong, which was built by the founding father of Bhutan, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1646. Today, this fortress houses the Administrative seat of the district of Paro and the district Monk Body with about 200 monks. The central tower (Utse) of the fortress is one of the most beautiful in Bhutan with its superb woodwork. On the way back from the museum the beautiful Paro village invites for a stroll and a market and drive to Thimphu for 1hour, the route takes through Paa chu and Wang Chhu is arid and has mainly scrub as vegetation. The countryside from Chuzom to Thimphu is less forested than what you have been seeing so far and the valleys are narrow except for two sections where it widens into gentle slopes and rice fields and lovely strands of conifer trees. Thimphu Festival- After the breakfast attend the festival and after having lunch Visit the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved. Visit the Painting School where traditional art is still preserved. Artists are taught to paint Thankas here (sacred Buddhist scroll). Visit the Handicrafts Emporium where one can buy Bhutanese textiles and other arts and crafts.
Thimphu- Punakha/Wangdue-After an early breakfast, drive to Punakha and Wangdipliodrang. The route takes you pass Simtokha Dzong but you turn left at the crossroads and as you ascend there is a good overview of the dzong. On the way, halt at Dochula Pass (3080) for a hot cup of tea coffee and on a clear day, the most spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayas and continue drive to Punakha, and short hike, Chimi Lhakhang, it take around 20-30mins walks from the road head, through cultivated fields and up a gentle slop. This Temple was built by lam Drukpa Kuenley (The Divine Madman) in 1499. Over night at Punakha
Punakha/Wangdue-sightseeing-After the break fast drive around 7km and hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten which was consecrated in 1999 after a mammoth eight year construction period and visit Punakha Dzong, The Dzong straddles the confluence of two rivers and resembles a giant battleship. Its full name is “Punthang Dechen Phodrang†or Palace of Great Happiness†It was built in 1637 AD and evening visit Wangdue Dzong.
Punakha- Paro-Drive back to Paro by crossing Dochu La. Stop in Thimphu for lunch and then continue towards Paro. At Chuzom, where the rivers Paro Chhu and Wang Chuu meet, you can see three different types of Chorten (Tibetan, Nepali, Bhutanese). Reach Paro in the late afternoon and take a walk through the village. Dinner at the hotel.
Tiger Nest Hike-After early breakfast, drive to end of the road and hike Taktsang Monastery. A very special day, with an excursion to view the spectacular Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery – After breakfast a short drive takes us to Satsam Chorten, from there a 2 hr. walk till the viewpoint point of the monastery. The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then walk a short distance until we see, clearly and seemingly within reach, Taktsang monastery. The primary Lhakhang was built around Guru Rimpoche’s meditation cave in the 1684by the Penlop of Paro Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay, this incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, said to be his favorites consort and evening walk around Paro city overnight at same Hotel.

Travel Insurance
To protect against unforeseen accidents and mishaps, we would like to suggest and advise you to have a Travel Insurance policy from your country. The Travel Insurance policy should cover helicopter evacuation services and medical assistance. Flying to Happiness will not be liable for any kind of injury, illness or death during your visit to Bhutan either of trek or cultural tour.
